Facebook (which also owns the popular social network Instagram) allows you to target your advertisements based on data and demographics gathered about its users. By microtargeting based on geography and the user’s likes and dislikes, you can maximize the number of people who are most likely to be receptive to your candidate’s message.
In addition to text advertisements, Facebook also allows for boosted/promoted newsfeed posts, as well as pre or mid-roll advertisements (interstitials) on embedded videos. For instance, when you’re watching a gripping, emotionally fraught cat video, you can insert a mid-roll ad as an interstitial that can’t be skipped… right before the fireman is about to rescue the cat from the sewer. If viewers are invested in the video enough up to that point, they will consume your ad in order to get to the end of their content.
