Multilingual Black Non-Binary Voice Actor – André Santana Tells Bold Stories

July 16, 2025 by Blue Wave Voiceover

You may catch Multilingual Black Non-Binary Voice Actor André Santana narrating an award-winning audiobook in his professional New York City broadcast quality studio or, when he’s on a much needed break, world-building in Fortnite while eating his favorite Thai food. If you’re looking for a passionate voice talent whose keen sense of character creation and lived experience tells stories across queer, Black, and immigrant communities, then you’ve found André!

Andre Santana smiling at the camera
André Santana

Originally from Brazil and raised in Seattle, André began college at only 16 years old in the Berkshires studying psychology and biosocial studies. Although dreams of becoming a professor eventually changed to a full time career in voice over, he hasn’t looked back.

As an “older Gen-Z”, his warm and youthful tone truly connects with younger audiences. He’s been an Audie-winning narrator of Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle, Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here by Jonathan Blitzer, and Sito by Laurence Ralph. In addition to his skillful storytelling and an approachable tone, he can easily pivot to serious political spots warning voters about opposing candidates. His versatility also allows him to use Portuguese and conversational Spanish for multilingual work like e-learning, corporate narration, or commercials.

If you’re looking for a professional award-winning Black, Latinx, and non-binary voice actor with heart and range who is ready to tell your story, André Santana is your next hire! To learn even more about André check out his Blue Wave page and his website.

  • Tell us a little about your broadcast-quality home studio. Where is it? What kind of equipment do you have? What do you like about it?

I have my home studio in my room, and it’s a Studiobricks (which has been decked out in stickers and plastic plants). I use a Rode NT1, Scarlett Focusrite and a Presonus Channel Strip. I love that with the stickers, neon lights, all the trimmings, it feels like home for me! I’ve recorded hundreds of hours in there and love what I’ve made of it.

  • What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I was on the road to academia before I made my way to voiceover. I’ve written a lengthy thesis, was a Fullbright finalist, applied to graduate schools, and had visions of becoming a professor. But to be so real, I’m grateful that path wasn’t right for me. Every day doing voiceover brings me so much joy.

  • How did you get into voiceover work?

Not only do I primarily work in audiobooks, but audiobooks were my entryway! I started on ACX then expanded with cartoons, commercials, and dubbing until I’d done a little bit of every genre.

  • Do you remember the first voiceover job you ever did?

How could I forget! It was an audiobook called Evocatus, and I got to talk with the author, learn a southern accent, and had so much fun working on it. I did not enjoy editing the book, but that was a quickly learned lesson.

  • What can you offer to a new client who’s working with you for the first time?

I think the biggest thing is patience and versatility! I completely understand when the unexpected happens, or more common yet, the project has to move by the seam of its pants and not everything is ironed out. I feel grounded in my experience in those situations and love being able to offer a variety of reads as we’re assessing what the spot is going to become.

  • What has been your favorite voiceover project – political or otherwise – to date?

Honestly, I’m so blessed to primarily work in books because some of the projects I’ve narrated have been outright favorites of mine. A highly political novel, It’s Not The End of the World by Jonathan Parks-Ramage, is one of my latest favorites, exploring the lives of a rich Californian couple in 2044 as the world falls apart, and what our future might hold.

  • What is your biggest voiceover pet peeve?

I’m a business-oriented person, so I’ll keep it real. I’ve run into a few clients who want me to overcharge, underdeliver, and then really want me to feel bad for not further discounting my services and offering things beyond the scope of my job. I love making recommendations when I’m not the right fit for something, and when a client treats me well, I want to treat them well, too! Nothing means more to me than my experience and boundaries being respected.

  • If you could tell political voiceover clients one thing that would help you do your job better, or help them get what they want faster – what would that one thing be?

References can change everything! Sometimes I get directions from someone who might not share language with me around how they want the spot to sound or what they’d like me to adjust. Those kinds of descriptors can be challenging, especially on the fly in a live session. If you’ve heard something else, have a clip, a scratch, any kind of reference that can help us get there, then I can usually match it and bring us over the finish line.

  • What advice do you have for talents who want to do political voiceover?

    André Santana

I will say that working along your values often feels empowering and important. I think it’s the whole spirit of Blue Wave! A candidate might come along with an enticing offer that is in opposition to what you want to achieve in the world, and if it doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to move on.

  • What hobbies do you have outside of your voiceover work?

Lately, I’ve been getting into fiction writing, Polaroid photography, and the usual dose of video games. I am actively on the hunt for my next tattoo to add to the cartoon-based sleeve on my right arm, and the plant-based sleeve on my left.

  • Any final thoughts?

I’ll leave you with a quote from a favorite show of mine, Steven Universe that got me through my senior thesis, first jobs out of college, and some of the hardest projects I’ve been on so far: If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn’t have hot dogs!

Radio Imaging: Finding the Perfect Voice and Vibe

June 3, 2025 by Blue Wave Voiceover

Are you a Program Director looking for the perfect radio imaging voice over talent for your radio station? Or perhaps your casino needs a radio imaging voice talent to advertise upcoming events? Blue Wave Voiceover’s talent has a diverse range of professional radio imaging voices that can fit your needs.

Radio Imaging is like the McDonald’s golden arches, the Starbucks mermaid, the NBC peacock, the Amazon smile, the Nike swoosh, the smiling red-headed girl of Wendy’s…They’re visual logos that convey a company’s brand to the consumer. Do you expect a black-tie sit-down dinner when you look at the Chick-Fil-A logo? What kind of jewelry would you hope to see when you open a box with the Cartier logo on it?

Voice for Radio, Issa Lopez
Issa Lopez

Radio imaging operates the same but instead of a visual design you hear the brand via a vocal imprint. Or as our voice talent Issa Lopez says, “It’s a billboard for a brand.” A radio imaging voice over actor gives your business a personality. When you’re driving along a highway while flipping through stations and hear a velvety voice say “Smooth Jazz 101.7”, do you want to stop and listen to the next song? Or maybe the snarky Alternative Rock voice fits more your edgy style?

With the variety of music stations at people’s fingertips, hire a Radio Imaging voice to represent your distinctive brand and be the billboard everyone can see.

Radio Imaging isn’t only for the Radio

Radio imaging isn’t just for radio stations that you flip through during your commute. It can show up in other ways that answer the questions: How can a brand’s image extend to advertising and connect more with an audience? What’s another way a consumer audience can connect with a business?

While shopping at a department store you might hear overhead, “Head on over to the kitchen department to save 50% on appliances like refrigerators, toaster ovens, and blenders! Act fast. Sale ends tomorrow.”  A radio imaging voice can alert customers to in-store sales, upcoming concerts, or delicious dining you can’t miss at the casino. It’s about creating an environment where people are excited to be there. Many retail stores like gas stations, grocery stores, and even casinos, have their own private radio stations so they need a radio imaging voice.

As more people consume music and other entertainment through digital platforms, radio imaging is often used for podcasts to tease an upcoming episode or in other online radio channels like apps.

How can a Radio Imaging Voice Talent Help Your Business?

Woman Recording in Radio Station

A great radio imaging campaign is all about connection. A radio imaging voice over talent is the hand that invites the audience in to learn more. A voice actor can provide a consistent and personal tone that brings people back every time. For radio stations, listeners develop relationships with their favorite DJs and a radio imaging voice becomes another familiar voice that they can instantly recognize.

Hiring a radio imaging voice actor for the first time?

There are a few elements that will make your campaign a success. When you hire a radio imaging voice actor, keep this in mind:

Target Audience + Authenticity = Great Experience

First, know your target audience. What’s their personality and what do they value about your business?

Then, hire a radio imaging voice actor who authentically conveys your brand and connects to your target audience. Do you need a voice that is funny, witty, sarcastic, salt of the earth, personable, or electric? The voice actor should have their own personality to make an authentic connection with your audience.

Female Voice for Radio Imaging, Maria Pendolino
Maria Pendolino

Finally, these elements can lead to a great experience not just for your audience but also for your working relationship with a voice talent. Talented Blue Wave Voiceover actors like Maria Pendolino and Issa Lopez  know how hard teams work behind the scenes to make their businesses successful. Maria enjoys voicing concerts and promotions for excited listeners and collaborating with stations where she can really use her diverse acting skills. Long time radio imaging voice actor Issa Lopez is just as passionate about the success of a radio station as the program directors with whom she has long working relationships. People can hear their passions behind the mic and want to continue working with professional and reliable radio imaging voice talents like Issa and Maria.

Find and Hire your next Radio Imaging Voice Actor!

Radio imaging genres range from Contemporary Hit Radio or CHR, to rock, country, talk radio, Spanish, hip-hop, or classical, and each one requires a specific voice and personality. Let us help you find your next professional radio imaging voice at Blue Wave Voiceover! Feel free to e-mail casting@bluewavevoiceover.com and we’ll be happy to give you free, no obligation auditions of your script to choose from. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Why Elizabeth Saydah Is the Professional Voice Talent You’ve Been Searching For

April 28, 2025 by Blue Wave Voiceover

If you’re looking for an authoritative, mature, and confident professional female voice over talent, Elizabeth Saydah is your next hire! She wants to share her love of storytelling with you and deliver a performance that makes your project great. She’ll make it easy for you and give you the reassurance that only her professionalism can provide. And don’t let her warm or authoritative voice fool you – if you need a sassy soccer mom or a college dude recovering from spring break, she can deliver.

Elizabeth’s (or Liz’s) roster of clients have included Disney, Google, Hyundai, and Netflix. With over a decade of experience, Liz has voiced a wide variety of genres like VOG (Voice of God), commercials, and In Show narration. These are only some of the genres where her talent shines in addition to democratic political campaigns. When she’s not working you may catch her doing some fun improv or chatting about Bruce Springsteen’s brilliance.

Meet Elizabeth Saydah who is your next trustworthy strong professional female voice actor for your project!

  1. Tell us a little about your broadcast-quality home studio.

I’ve been working out of the same double-walled 4 x 4 booth for the last eight years from my home, which very recently changed from Los Angeles California to the Hudson Valley in New York. Big home change, but the booth has ensured consistency throughout. I think that’s really what I love most about it. I also don’t have to stress about external noise because it’s a literal tank and about as soundproof as you can get. I will say I’m working on building an “in-room” studio in my home now that we have more space, but it’s been a cozy, reliable work home for me from day one.

I use the Neumann TLM 103 mic and Apollo Twin interface at home, and Sennheiser 416 and Arrow when I travel. I love the quality and sound of both mics in their respective environments, and the UAD interfaces are just so convenient and all-encompassing in what they can do.

  1. What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I’ve trained and performed in improv comedy for almost 20 years, and it continues to this day. Nothing else I’ve ever done has been as joyful, challenging, and beneficial to me as a voice actor, actor and human! Laughter is the most critical contribution to my mental health.

  1. How did you get into voiceover work?

Elizabeth Saydah in her booth Recording and LaughingWhen I was a waitress in Chicago at the worst restaurant ever, a very kind woman said, “you have a great voice, you should check out this coach I use.” So I did and… probably learned some things? After that I did my first ADR job (for zero dollars) that I think I found on Craigslist. Once I moved to LA, I did a play with a girl who said, “You should check out so-and-so who did my VO demo.” So – I did, and almost immediately got an agent and jumped on all the casting sites (that were just starting to ramp up in popularity). And the rest is history!

  1. Do you remember the first voiceover job you ever did?

As far as a professional job that I actually was paid for, it was either a case study for an MTV/Subway cross promotion OR – more interesting – a toy called “Potty Mouth” that you affixed to your toilet and would yell at anyone who didn’t close the lid. Brilliant.

  1. What can you offer to a new client who’s thinking of working with you for the first time?

Well, 100%, first and foremost, whether it’s local or global, I’m all in. My most loyal clients have usually begun on very small projects and are responsible for most of my income to be honest.

Practically speaking, my work is both fast and high quality. I always have extremely fast turnarounds and flexible availability for directed sessions. It’s very beneficial for political clients who need things in 15 minutes.

I’m also just easy to work with. I always bring a sense of humor, accessibility and professionalism to everything. Clients have enough on their plates, so whatever I can do to make their lives that much easier, I do. Customer service is everything; they need to trust that they’re going to get what they need back when they need it.

  1. What has been your favorite voiceover project – political or otherwise – to date?
Blue Wave Voiceover elizabeth_saydah
Elizabeth Saydah, Voiceover Artist

My favorite project has been playing the lead role in the game Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals. Creatively it was a blast, and I had (have) a great rapport with the developer, Night School Studio. The project spanned almost two years and I got a New York Game Award nomination out of it which felt pretty good. But as far as work I put out into the world, it was also a point of pride for me because it deals with the emotional rollercoaster of being in your 30s and “who am I in the world”. So it was both meaningful and perfectly suited for me for where I am in my life.

  1. What is your biggest voiceover pet peeve?

Probably the *general* assumption that VO is like this get-rich-quick career move, and the countless people to date who have asked me “how to get into VO.” I know it often comes from a good place, but there seems to be a general lack of appreciation for the amount of time it takes to get something going and then KEEP it going. Believe it or not, it’s a full-time job!

  1. If you could tell political voiceover clients one thing that would help you do your job better, or help them get what they want faster – what would that one thing be?

Ask 20 people what “conversational” means, and you get 20 different answers. I always love a reference spot. If there’s an existing piece of work that is similar in tone to what the client is looking for, that’s immensely helpful. I’ve had clients give me a list of adjectives as direction, but when they came back and redirected with a specific reference audio, it was like, ohh they really meant x y and z instead. Sometimes traditional direction doesn’t match up with our “VO speak.” So don’t feel shy about providing reference material as inspo!

  1. What advice do you have for talents who want to do political voiceover?

Make sure you have a broadcast quality studio, lightning fast turnarounds, and a point of view. I feel like especially in this political climate, it’s very helpful to know what you care about and believe in, and I think clients – especially those who source talent from a place like Blue Wave – pay attention to that.

Be aware of the different styles of political voice over and the tones they employ. Is it aggressive for an attack ad? Is it empathetic for a candidate’s cause? Being able to quickly identify what the spot calls for helps you do your job more efficiently and effectively (and might snag you a loyal client).

  1. What hobbies do you have outside of your voiceover work?

Yoga, hiking, tennis, improv comedy, reading, supporting/seeing live theater, gardening, traveling, antiquing, obsessing over my cat.

Tell us a little about your broadcast-quality home studio. Where is it? What kind of equipment do you have? What do you like about it?

My broadcast-quality home studio is surrounded by Producer’s Choice Blankets, sound absorption foam, and bass traps. I use a Rode NTG-2 microphone, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, Audacity/TwistedWave DAW, and a Mac Mini. I like that I am able to have my computer outside my recording space for me to pop out and do some editing and other work from there.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I have developed a crazy intolerance to processed sugar. I can’t even have a drop of simple syrup. My limit seems to be no more than 9 grams of added sugar if the items are packaged. I have learned to love using dates, honey, monk fruit, and bananas as a substitute in my food.

How did you get into voiceover work?

When I was in my undergrad, I worked at a sporting goods store and did the announcements. I had a manager comment that my voice sounds like it could be on an adult contemporary radio… Then a few years later, I was working for an investment firm wearing many hats. I enjoyed doing telephony (phone prompts) for the company’s phone system… Those and a few other series of events stuck with me until I took classes on the side for fun. That’s where I discovered voiceover. I did a few jobs, but then found out that I was not allowed to have another job on the side so I put it on the backburner until I left the investment world. As soon as I was able to, I got coaching done and made new demos to replace my old ones.

Do you remember the first voiceover job you ever did?

I voiced a few explainer videos for a voice altering app.

What can you offer to a new client who’s thinking of working with you for the first time?

A new client will experience collaborative work with me and a fast turnaround (less than 24 hours, depending on the size of work). I would be happy to share the project we worked on together on social media if the project is public, and not NDA or internal work. (I have been doing social media marketing on the side for several years.) I would also share tips for their social media.

What has been your favorite voiceover project – political or otherwise – to date?

My favorite project to date is a dubbing job that has been under NDA (shhh 🤫).

What is your biggest voiceover pet peeve?

Most people think that you just read a script and that it’s not a real job. Having a nice voice does not book voiceover work, and the work does just fall on your lap. It requires a lot of coaching and education. You need to learn how to use your audio equipment on your end. You are running a business and you need to know how to market yourself.

If you could tell voiceover clients one thing that would help you do your job better, or help them get what they want faster – what would that one thing be?

Share with me who the target market is and what sort of emotion they would like the read to be. The more information and direction they share, it leaves less room for revisions.

What advice do you have for talents who want to do political voiceover?

Work with a coach who does political voiceover work, whether it be someone who books political work voicing it or producing the work. They will know the industry trends and what books the work… And be yourself.

What hobbies do you have outside of your voiceover work?

Making handmade cards… Walking with my husband along the coast and watching the sunset… Traveling… Cooking… Attending foodie events. I take so many photos of food. I see plated food as artwork.

Thinking about hiring a Spanish speaking voice over talent?

March 3, 2025 by Blue Wave Voiceover

Thinking about hiring a Spanish Speaking Voice Over Talent?

Antonio Fornaris
Antonio Fornaris

Are you thinking about hiring a professional Spanish voiceover talent for your next campaign? Over the course of five hundred years, the population of Spanish speakers in the United States has steadily grown.

Speaking Spanish has become a professional asset not just in industries like business but voiceover too! There are almost 500 million Spanish speakers in the world which makes it the second most spoken language in the world (after Mandarin Chinese).

Like English, the Spanish speaking world covers a wide range of regional accents and dialects. The bilingual voiceover talent you hire might depend on where your audience lives and which Latino community they identify with. Are they Puerto Ricans or Colombians in New York City, Mexicans in Los Angeles, or Cubans in Miami? All these different groups speak Spanish a little differently meaning their accents and vernacular can be as distinct from the other as English speakers from New York City, London England, or Sydney Australia. You want to hire a Spanish-speaking voiceover talent who relates to your audience in a voice they recognize. Our bilingual Spanish-speaking talent are as varied as Latin culture itself. Some of our talent can also accommodate a standard or neutral Spanish if requested.

Español Grows in the United States

As our neighbor, Mexico has the largest number of Spanish speakers in the world – nearly 130 million – and between immigration and trade español keeps growing in the United States. We have the 4th largest population of native Spanish speakers according to a report from Instituto Cervantes. The Wilson Center assessed that “the US has 40 times the number of Spanish speakers of any other country where Spanish is not an official language”. Instituto Cervantes’ report also estimates that by 2060, the US will have a population of 26.5% of hispanic origin. But it won’t stop there…they predict the US will then become the world’s second largest Spanish speaking country!

¿Hablas Spanglish?

Blue Wave Voiceover Carolina_Hoyos
Carolina Hoyos

With all of this growth, inevitably English and Spanish would converge and become the norm in many communities around the country. Spanglish is a fun mix of Spanish and English used interchangeably when speaking. Its wide-spread use has achieved dictionary status in both the Royal Academy of Spanish and the Oxford English Dictionary, híjole! According to Pew Research Center, bilingual Latinos use Spanglish more often than their English or even Spanish dominant speakers. Spanglish is used more with second generation Latinos than third or higher generations.

Latino Purchasing Power

As the fastest growing population in the US, Latinos have economic power. Only in the past few years has their purchasing power been truly understood and harnessed by US industries. According to a 2023 report by L’ATTITUDE, an annual business event that focuses on Latino leadership across industries, Latino purchasing power was measured at $3.4 trillion.

In 2023, the US Latino population spent $2 billion according to a report by Instituto Cervantes. The same report states that Spanish is the second most used language on digital platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Netflix.

Identifying as Latino in the United States

According to the Pew Center, the majority of Spanish speakers think it’s important that future Latino generations speak Spanish while those who are more English dominant think it’s less important. How well they speak changes across generations – 75% of US born Latinos saying they speak very well down to 14% by the third or fourth generation. Whether or not one speaks Spanish and if it makes one more Latino or not is a debated topic within the community.

Blue Wave Voiceover Robb-Moreira
Robb Moreira

As languages mix, more and more Latinos identify as multiracial. In 2022, nearly 25 million identified as such up from 3 million in 2010. Some of this, according to the Pew Research Center, can be attributed to the changes in race descriptions for the US census in addition to increased racial diversity.

If you’re thinking about hiring a professional Spanish speaking voiceover talent Blue Wave has you covered! Our professional and award-winning voiceover talent genuinely reflect the diversity of Latino culture. Whether you need a bilingual voice actor or someone who identifies as Hispanic or Latino/Latina but speaks English, our voiceover actors have the talent, and authentic lived experiences, to tell your story.

Do you need a Bilingual Voice Over Talent?

March 3, 2025 by Blue Wave Voiceover

Brian Amador

According to the World Economic Forum, about 70 million people speak a language other than English at home in the United States. Spanish is the second most spoken language and then Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, and Arabic are the most common non-English languages in the country.

There are a few key benefits to hiring a bilingual voice talent for your political ad or commercial. It’s a strategic investment that helps an audience connect authentically with a speaker. No matter what genre you may be producing whether it’s corporate videos, political ad campaigns, e-learning, radio imaging, or explainer videos, a bilingual voice talent broadens your message’s reach and makes it more inclusive. If you have a corporate or e-learning video that needs a bilingual voice over narrator, hiring a professional voice over talent from a collective like Blue Wave Voiceover can be the most efficient and authentic way to connect with listeners.

There are numerous advantages when hiring a bilingual voice-over talent. Here are five key benefits:

Bilingual Voice Over Talent Broadens Audience Reach

Blue Wave Voiceover AndreSantana-Headshot
André Santana

A bilingual talent can seamlessly switch between languages, making your content accessible to a wider demographic. When a listener hears a message in their native language, it becomes more relatable and powerful. A voice over talent’s ability to speak a second language opens more opportunities for strategic audience targeting.

For political campaigns, this inclusivity can appeal to diverse voter bases who, for example, speak Spanish or Arabic. For commercials, corporate videos, or e-learning, it can connect with both native and non-native speakers of a second language. If an international company needs a corporate training video for employees in another language, hiring a voice over talent to narrate can make a new employee feel welcomed and included.

Bilingual Voice Over Talent Brings Cultural Relevance and Authenticity

Native bilingual voice over talents understand cultural nuances in both languages. This ensures that a message resonates authentically with each audience. Bringing in a native speaker avoids mistranslations or cultural faux pas that might alienate potential voters, customers, or learners. Authentic representation truly matters today.

Bilingual Voice Over Talent Can Save Money and Time

Hiring a single bilingual voice over actor can eliminate the need for multiple talents thus reducing production costs. It also speeds up the recording process, as the same talent can handle multiple language versions in one session. Corporate video can also save companies time and money without needing to hire an in-person translator. Blue Wave Voiceover’s professional talent have broadcast-quality home studios and can often turn around a project in 24-48 hours depending on the scope.

Bilingual Voice Over Talent Enhances Credibility and Engagement

Carolina Hoyos
Carolina Hoyos

Hearing a message in one’s native language builds trust and emotional connection. In political campaigns it can encourage participation in democratic processes that may not have been possible if spoken only in English. In commercials, a brand can be more accessible and relatable for a consumer if it’s in another language. A brand’s reach expands into more communities when people feel heard and need a solution to a problem.

For e-learning, bilingual narration improves comprehension and engagement for learners who might be more comfortable switching between languages. In a genre like animation or dubbing, authentic foreign language voice actors enhance the storytelling and improve the viewing experience for an audience.

Flexibility in Messaging and Marketing

A bilingual voiceover talent can adapt the tone, style, and delivery to match the expectations of different linguistic and cultural audiences. Being flexible is invaluable in creating targeted and effective political ads or commercials. E-learning videos can perform well across different markets too.

Some of the most widely spoken languages in the U.S. can benefit from targeted messaging. For example, there are about 3.5 million Cantonese and Mandarin speakers. Tagalog has over 1.5 million speakers while Arabic has over 1.2 million with the biggest populations in Michigan and Tennessee. And the biggest non-English spoken language, Spanish, keeps growing in the United States. We have the 4th largest population of native Spanish speakers according to a report from Instituto Cervantes. They predict the US will become the world’s second largest Spanish speaking country in a few decades!
